Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult Community Services team in South London. The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, management, and treatment for adults with communication and swallowing disorders (dysphagia) within the community. This role involves managing a diverse caseload, working autonomously, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments of adults in the community with communication and swallowing disorders to determine the nature and extent of impairments.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised treatment plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
- Dysphagia Management: Provide specialist services for the assessment and management of dysphagia, ensuring safe and effective swallowing practices.
- Caseload Management: Manage a defined caseload independently, maintaining high standards of care and ensuring effective prioritisation and time management.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals, to deliver integrated patient care.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate and support patients and their families regarding communication and swallowing disorders, offering strategies for effective management.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
- Community Outreach: Engage with community services and support networks to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development, staying current with advancements in speech and language therapy, particularly in community settings.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy or a related field.
- Registration: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience: Significant experience working with adults with communication and swallowing disorders, particularly in community settings.
- Competencies: Full competency in dysphagia management and the ability to deliver specialized therapeutic interventions.
- Skills: Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing environments and work effectively under pressure.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- Specialised Training: Additional certifications or advanced training in specific areas of speech and language therapy, such as dysphagia or neurological disorders.
- Community Experience: Experience working within community health services and engaging with local support networks.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to mentor and support junior staff and contribute to the development of the therapy team.
