We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team, specialising in working with younger children aged 0-5 and their families. The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, management, and treatment for young children with speech, language, and communication needs. This role involves working closely with families, caregivers, and a multi-disciplinary team to support the developmental needs of children in early years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, and communication needs in children aged 0-5 to determine the nature and extent of impairments.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised treatment plans based on the child's needs and evidence-based practices.
  • Family Support and Education: Work closely with families and caregivers to provide education, strategies, and support to facilitate the child's communication development.
  • Caseload Management: Manage a defined caseload independently, maintaining high standards of care and ensuring effective prioritisation and time management.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including paediatricians, health visitors, occupational therapists, and early childhood educators, to deliver integrated care.
  • Developmental Support: Provide guidance and support for early years settings, such as nurseries and preschools, to promote speech and language development.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
  • Community Outreach: Engage with community services and support networks to ensure comprehensive care and support for children and their families.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development, staying current with advancements in speech and language therapy, particularly in early childhood development.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy or a related field.
  • Registration: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience: Significant experience working with children aged 0-5 with speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Competencies: Full competency in the assessment and management of early years communication disorders.
  • Skills: Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing environments and work effectively under pressure.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Specialised Training: Additional certifications or advanced training in early childhood development or specific speech and language therapy techniques for young children.
  • Early Years Experience: Experience working within early years settings and engaging with early childhood educators.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to mentor and support junior staff and contribute to the development of the early years therapy team.
